Professional ProfileLibby Holloway Working

Libby Holloway is a Certified member of the International Society of Appraisers (ISA). This designation is awarded to members in good standing who have completed an intensive course of study and passed examinations in appraisal principles and practices of professional appraising. She has had extensive training in the field of decorative arts and is continually seeking to expand her education in this and others areas.

Ms. Holloway is a graduate of Virginia Tech where she received a B.S. in Psychology with an emphasis in research and publication. Her scientific background has given her the drive to find “just the facts” in her present career. Later she became an assistant to one of the premier dealers of 17th and 18th century American and English antiques in Virginia. While working as a dealer, she began training as an appraiser.

This training includes surveys of a range of antiques as well as training in the laws, IRS codes and Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). Ms. Holloway has been in private practice for over 10 years. In this time she has written articles, shared them on her newsletter, and spoken to numerous groups about antiques and collecting. She also contributes articles to LowCountry Weekly in a column"An Honest Appraisal" and Interstate 95 Antiques. Libby has co-starred on the popular local television shows “The Appraising Eye” and “What it’s Worth.” She recently served as the Program Chairperson for the ISA 2009 Annual Conference in Charleston, SC.  It was during this conference she was awarded the Outstanding Member Award for 2009.  Ms. Holloway is currently serving as the Secretary of the Board of Directors.

Though having a strong background in antique decorative arts, Ms. Holloway is a generalist with a broad knowledge of all types of personal property. No one can know everything; however, so she has found some of the most qualified appraisers specializing in other fields to assist her clients as well. Libby is married to Jay Holloway of OCS Garage Doors and Hurricane Protection and has two sons.
